Building a Data Warehousing Strategy Document

A mix of lecture and lab is used to expose participants to the core elements necessary in any Data Warehouse (DW)/Business Intelligence (BI) strategy document. Using the HandsOn Strategy Document Generator, participants will create a draft strategy document of about 40 pages customized to their warehouse/BI initiatives, including figures, tables, and appendices.

Extensive lab time provides students with valuable insight into the functionality and applicability with non-traditional BI technology as well as implementing traditional BI technology in a non-traditional manner, specifically, in-database.

Topics covered in both the lecture and strategy document creation, including the following:

  • Conceptual View - describing the overall vision of the DW/BI environment, its goals and objectives
  • Data Architecture - formal definition of the data structures used to support the environment, now and in the future. This includes the expected process flow and data propagation
  • Technical Architecture - formal definition of the technical components of the environment required to support the expected environment, now and in the future
  • Implementation View - identify, define, and prioritize project iterations using the Dysfunction, Impact, and Feasibility (DIF) Matrix

Please note that enrollment is limited to 30 attendees, two per laptop.
